At Mount Sinai Medical Center, our award-winning cancer treatment program is comprehensive, compassionate and without compare in the state of Florida.  The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has twice awarded Mount Sinai its Outstanding Achievement Award, recognizing our outstanding leadership in cancer care.

Mount Sinai Medical Center's Comprehensive Breast Center is the first and only center in Florida to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).  This accreditation is given only to those centers what have passed a rigorous evaluation, are committed to provide the highest quality care in breast disease diagnosis and treatment, and have demonstrated they can comply with the accreditation program's high standards.

If you'd like a referral to one of the experts at our Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center, please contact our physician referral service at 305.674.CARE (2273).  For more information about the cancer center, visit http://www.msccc.com.  For more information about our Comprehensive Breast Center, visit http://www.msccc.com/services/breast.html.

Our approach
Our approach to treating cancer is unique in several ways that are key to our patients' success. Above all, we know that the highest quality of medical care requires medical expertise and nurturing care for the patient as a whole person – body, mind and spirit.
Medical oncologists, radiation oncologistssurgical oncologists, and members of our multidisciplinary support team including psychologists, social workers, pain specialists and nutritionists contribute their expertise to create the most effective individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Research
Patients benefit immeasurably from our participation in the adult Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). This prestigious grant-funded program, created by the National Cancer Institute, allows us to take part in promising clinical trials that offer the most cutting-edge cancer treatments. Thanks to CCOP, our patients often have access to effective treatments years before they are widely available. We’re one of only 61 major research centers nationwide to participate in the CCOP, and the only Florida hospital to receive a grant for such a program to assist adult cancer
patients.

Awards
Our high quality of care has been recognized by several awards. Recent highlights include:

  • In December 2008, the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer granted three-year accreditation to the Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center.  This accreditation distinguishes cancer centers for their quality.  Mount Sinai's on-site evaluation led by a physician surveyor assessed compliance with standards representing the full scopy of our program, including cancer committee leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, quality improvement and cancer data management.
  • The Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons in 2006. We were one of only two cancer centers in Florida to receive this award, which recognizes cancer centers that strive for excellence in providing quality care.
  • The Clinical Trial Participation Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2005. This award went to our Community Clinical Oncology Program for its efforts to increase clinical trial participation and expand the demographic range of participants.
