Allen Bernard Kantrowitz, M.D. became chief of the Mount Sinai Medical Center Division of Neurosurgery in August 2010.

A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Kantrowitz received his medical degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He completed his training in neurosurgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, one of the pioneering centers of microneurosurgery of the brain, pituitary gland, orbit and spine. Dr. Kantrowitz then was named neurosurgical director of the New York Center for Cranial Base Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

Board-certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Kantrowitz holds several U.S. patents for developing medical devices for minimally invasive neurosurgery and image-guided neurosurgery, hospital patient safety, percutaneous skin access and infection control, and other specialties. Dr. Kantrowitz’s new position marks his return to South Florida. He previously was an attending neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai, as well as the Miami Heart Institute.
