Meet our Orthopedic Surgeons
Ettore Vulcano, MD
Dr. Ettore Vulcano is the Chief of the Columbia University Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center and is an Associate Professor of Orthopedics at Columbia University.
Prior to joining Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Dr. Vulcano was the Chief of Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery at Mount Sinai West and Associate Professor at the Leni & Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai New York.
Dr. Vulcano has diverse and extensive training. He graduated summa cum laude from Campus Biomedico University Medical School, the leading-ranked medical school in Rome Italy, and completed a rigorous orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Insubria in Varese, Italy, also graduating summa cum laude.

Stephanie Shim, MD
Dr. Stephanie Shim is an orthopedic surgeon and an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Division of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center, specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery and microsurgery.
Dr. Shim earned her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, where she was named Administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Shim completed the Harvard Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship, training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Shim’s clinical and research interests include the treatment of hand and upper limb trauma, surgical treatment of overuse injuries and arthritis of the hand and upper limb, and nerve injury, compression, and surgery.
Danica Vance, MD
Dr. Danica Vance is an orthopedic surgeon and an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Division of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center, specializing in sports medicine.
Dr. Vance earned her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed an internship in general surgery and her residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. She then went on to complete a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Duke Sports Sciences Institute at Duke University.
Dr. Vance’s clinical interests include the treatment of complex shoulder and knee injuries such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, knee ligamentous and cartilage injuries, and patella instability. Her research interests include the genetics of sports injuries, cartilage restoration, biomarkers in injury, injury prevention in athletes, and biomechanics of the shoulder.
