Recent Graduate Medical Education Highlights
As South Florida’s oldest statutory teaching hospital, Mont Sinai is committed to expanding and enhancing our educational offerings through a variety of initiatives and partnerships.
Below are a few recent program highlights:
- Mount Sinai was recently approved for Non-Standard Training Accreditation from the ACGME. Recently, the ACGME announced a change in the recognition of non-standard training as it relates to the J-1 visa program. Under the revised model, the ACGME will provide recognition to the sponsoring institution that offers non-standard training programs for exchange physicians. Through this new model, Mount Sinai has recently received ACGME recognition that all of our graduate medical education programs meet the rigorous standards provided, ensuring the best training for all of our residents and fellows.
- Mount Sinai’s Graduate Anesthesia Program was approved for expansion. Our Anesthesia Residency program trains highly qualified residents in a critical specialty for patients and health systems. Keeping in mind the critical nature of the field, we are excited to announce that we have recently received approval from the ACGME to expand the program by one resident per year, with a total increase of three residents.
- We look forward to beginning interviews for our graduate training programs. Each year, our residencies and fellowships interview a large number of medical students from across the country for a small number of competitive spots in our training programs. We look forward to conducting both in-person and virtual interviews, allowing prospective students to apply to our programs unimpeded by cost and distance.
- We recently launched our new Resident Research Collaboration meetings. Our residency programs are committed to improving care through discovery and innovation, and we believe a large part of that progress comes through collaboration. With partnership from Chief Residents, our Department of Research is coordinating a monthly meeting to encourage research that crosses specialties and disciplines. Through these meetings, we will help accelerate research and answer important questions, improving patient care.
We are continually striving for educational excellence, expanding our offerings and deepening our fields of study. These recent developments further cement our position as an epicenter for knowledge and allow us to teach and train physicians that will provide world-class health care.
