Edie Laquer’s strategic investments as president of Laquer Corporate Group have empowered her to become one of Miami’s most prominent philanthropists. Hailing from the Midwest, she continues to make her mark on South Florida through her orchestration and participation in landmark mixed-use projects, as well as in her philanthropy. Her work with Mount Sinai has opened her eyes to the health care sector’s developing trends. “Supporting Mount Sinai Medical Center and becoming a Founder inspired me to better appreciate that clinical research is undergoing a major transformation through a ‘patient-centric’ personalized approach to healthcare,” Edie says.
Edie’s decision to support the upcoming Irma and Norman Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center was made at the beginning stages of the project. “I had the opportunity to see the plans for the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center early on and immediately understood that this is where support is needed the most at this time,” she says. “The cancer center’s new era of advanced and holistic care brings with it the sense of optimism that new cases may sooner be diagnosed and cured, and these historic advancements may well provide a second chance for those still fighting to survive.” Edie is invested in the shift into personalized, holistic health care as well; she says, “This principle is especially meaningful for the new cancer center, where patients will be empowered to become informed collaborators and participate in playing a crucial role in their own health care.”
Edie’s philanthropy is rooted in doing what’s best for the greater good, hence her previous involvement with Mount Sinai’s Skolnick Surgical Tower, which opened in 2019. But philanthropy is also deeply personal for her. “As a child of Holocaust survivors, I cultivated a strong work ethic through leading by example. While I support many worthwhile causes, there is none more essential at this moment in time than health care,” Edie says. “I’d like my legacy to continue to honor my remarkable mother, Peggy, and my unforgettable dad, Michael, in supporting this transformational building, which will shape the future of cancer care for generations to come.”
