Dr. Manuel Berzosa is the chief of gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Berzosa treats various gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, such as GERD, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, liver disease, gastritis and more. He specializes in the detection and management of Barrett’s esophagus – a serious complication of GERD – with the use of chromoendoscopy, an endoscopic technique that uses stains to speed up the detection of various pathologic processes. It can also be used in the evaluation of polyps in the colon, and to detect dysplasia in inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Bersoza also has a focus in GI oncology, providing treatment for esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, lung and rectal cancer.
Dr. Berzosa completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and an advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the chief resident of the internal medicine program at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and an instructor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Berzosa has published a number of articles on the topics of GI and endoscopic procedures, and presented on these topics both nationally and internationally. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
