Mount Sinai’s Adult Autism Clinic dedicated by the Makarov Foundation provides primary and specialty medical care for individuals age 18 and older with an autism spectrum disorder, or ASD. Our caring and compassionate staff has been trained by the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) to meet the special medical needs of adults on the autism spectrum. Mount Sinai is the only hospital in South Florida that provides medical care in a hospital setting for the adult autism population, ages 18 and over.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 1 in every 68 children – 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls – are on the autism spectrum. As children with autism mature into young adults, pediatricians are no longer appropriate as their primary care physicians.

Given that the prevalence of autism has increased 10-fold during the past decade, the number of children with autism who will become adults over the next few years is huge. Mount Sinai’s adult autism clinic addresses the need for continued medical care by physicians who understand autism and can help adults on the spectrum transition for pediatrics to other forms of health care.
