About Mount Sinai
Mission Driven, Driven to Teach
Mount Sinai Medical Center opened its doors at the close of World War II with the mission to provide all members of the Miami Beach community with access to care, regardless of race, creed, nationality, or the ability to pay. Likewise, the founders of Mount Sinai set out to create a hospital where doctors, nurses, and staff could be free from discrimination. And today, more than three-quarters of a century later, Mount Sinai delivers lifesaving care to one of the most diverse patient populations in the nation, offering physicians unique clinical and research opportunities. And Mount Sinai boasts a global community of health care professionals with experience and training from among the most prestigious medical institutions in the U.S. and the world.
Providers similarly enjoy Mount Sinai’s diverse patient population and multinational faculty. The health system offers training in 20 specialties as well as an exclusive academic affiliation with Columbia University in cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, and urology. Through this affiliation, our physicians collaborate with their Columbia University colleagues on complex cases, share results from novel research, and participate in clinical trials, including early-phase trials.
A Tradition of Excellence
Mount Sinai offers its providers an environment of unmatched clinical excellence. Here, you’ll work alongside physicians, nurses, and allied health providers recruited from nationally renowned programs across multiple specialties. You will have the opportunity to practice in a truly collaborative environment that embraces a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Our outstanding faculty and staff, along with a never-ending dedication to delivering quality care, have led Mount Sinai to become one of the most awarded hospitals in the state and nation, including:
- The only hospital in Miami-Dade named one of Healthgrades top 5% of U.S. hospitals for four years running: 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020
- The only hospital in South Florida — and only one of 250 in the world — named to Newsweek magazine’s list of World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2021
- Ranked among the top 5% of hospitals in Florida on S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals in the State of Florida list for 2021
- The only Ivy League-affiliated cardiology, urology, orthopedics, and cancer programs in South Florida, backed by Columbia University
Welcome to South Florida
Coastal Living Meets Global Culture
Our location in one of the most desirable parts of the country means sun-filled days 249 days of the year. Indeed, South Florida’s balmy climate attracts millions of tourists each year along with transplants escaping brutal winters (and not-so-frigid environs), not just from other parts of the U.S., but from all around the world. South Florida’s warm days mean temperatures rarely fall below 65 degrees, which makes boating, fishing, al fresco dining, and all forms of outdoor activities a yearlong reality.
Beyond our natural resources, South Florida has grown into a global destination for banking, real estate, and health care, bringing an explosion of rich cultural offerings. This includes the world’s most recognized art festival; a varied music and performing arts scene; brand-new, world-class museums; and every category of professional sports teams. And did we mention the food? From homegrown, iconic treasures like Joe’s Stone Crab, to outposts of London and New York’s most popular hotspots, Miami and South Florida offer every type of gastronomy to satisfy the most obsessed foodie.
For Finances and Families
Tax revenue from millions of visitors each year allows Florida to operate with no state income taxes. In fact, the absence of income taxes can put tens of thousands of additional dollars in your family’s pocket.
Physicians who join the Mount Sinai family don’t have to put those extra dollars toward education, because Miami-Dade County has some of the nation’s top-ranked public schools, including three of the top 100 high schools in the entire U.S. Of course, South Florida also has its share of high-quality private and parochial schools. In addition, the state’s flagship educational institution, the University of Florida, ranks fifth in the nation among public research universities. Go Gators!
