    Dr. Ahmed Elghawy is the Chief of Arthritis & Rheumatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

    Dr. Elghawy earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL. Following residency, Dr. Elghawy completed his rheumatology fellowship training at SUNY Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, where he served as Chief Fellow. He then pursued his sports medicine fellowship training at Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH.

    Before joining Mount Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Elghawy practiced and taught at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Additionally, Dr. Elghawy provided care at the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center, specializing in general rheumatology and treating patients with rheumatic diseases, both nationally and internationally. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he taught students, residents, and rheumatology/sports medicine fellows.  From a sports medicine lens, Dr. Elghawy has managed injuries in athletes at high school, college (Division I, II, and III), semi-professional, Olympic, and professional levels.

    With extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of complex autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders, he is committed to providing evidence-based care to enhance quality of life while promoting long-term wellness. Dr. Elghawy has a special interest in rheumatic disease in athletes and has lectured at numerous regional and national medical conferences, interviewed for news/media outlets, and has been invited as a guest-speaker on podcasts.

    Dr. Elghawy is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and received his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine (CAQSM) through the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). He is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (FACR) and certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology though the American College of Rheumatology (RhMSUS). He is also a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American College of Physicians (ACP).
