Dr. Angelo La Pietra has practiced as a cardiovascular surgeon at Mount Sinai Medical Center since 2008. Board certified in thoracic surgery, he specializes in all types of open heart surgical procedures with special emphasis on thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery, and the implantation and removal of electronic cardiac devices such as pacemakers and automatic cardiac defibrillators. Dr. La Pietra also is an expert in performing convergent endo-epicardial ablation, better known as the Hybrid Maze procedure, a technique that improves quality of life for patients with chronic atrial fibrillation who are not candidates for traditional single ablation.
Born and raised in New York City, Dr. La Pietra started his career as an electrical engineer but his passion for medicine led him to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree. He then trained in general surgery for five years at Montefiore Medical Center and became a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. La Pietra continued his surgical training at New York University School of Medicine, where he completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery and became a Diplomat of the American Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
