Dr. Jorge Fuentes is an interventional and general cardiologist with advanced training in structural heart disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University, New York.

Dr. Fuentes is Cuban-American and was raised in Miami, FL. He earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and later completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Florida, where he was Chief Resident. He completed his cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology fellowship at Boston University Medical Center.

He went on to complete an advanced fellowship in structural heart disease at NYU Langone Hospital. Dr. Fuentes has conducted both clinical and laboratory research, presented at national and international meetings, and has published textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles in the areas of basic science, cardiovascular disease, and percutaneous heart repair techniques.

Dr. Fuentes specializes in treating patients with severe valvular and coronary heart disease. He is part of the multidisciplinary heart team that evaluates patients for minimally invasive therapeutic procedures such as TAVR and MitralClip. He performs transcatheter closures of adult congenital heart defects such as ASDs/PFOs. He treats patients with complex coronary artery disease and performs atherectomy for heavily calcified arteries. In patients with heart attacks and in cardiogenic shock, he utilizes left ventricular assist devices including the Impella. He performs catheterizations primarily using the wrist approach with many of his patients going home the same day after receiving a stent to treat blockages in the heart arteries.

Dr. Fuentes is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and is a Diplomate in the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

He is fluent in English and Spanish.
