Stuart S. Kaplan, M.D., FACR, FSBI, is Section Chief of Breast Imaging, at Mount Sinai medical center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Kaplan brings more than 25 years of experience in breast imaging to the cancer center, which is dedicated to detecting, treating and preventing breast cancer.
A graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine, he completed his radiology residency at the University of California Los Angeles and a breast imaging fellowship at the Iris Cantor Center for Breast Imaging at the University of California Los Angeles.
Dr. Kaplan is a nationally recognized expert in breast imaging and is a fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR), a distinction held by less than 10 per cent of radiologists, and a fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging. He pioneered the use of ultrasound for screening in women with dense breast tissue, and authored one of the landmark studies on the subject.
Dr. Kaplan is a clinical reviewer and past chairman of the ACR Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Accreditation Program, and a clinical reviewer and past committee member of the ACR Breast Ultrasound Accreditation Program. Dr. Kaplan also served as a Committee Member, Breast Committee for Appropriateness Criteria and Guidelines and Standards, American College of Radiology, Department of Quality and Safety, Jan 2006 – May 2011.
Dr. Kaplan has authored many research studies, and a book chapter in the field of Breast Imaging.
