Graduate Medical Education Updates: Spring 2025

As South Florida’s oldest statutory teaching hospital, Mont Sinai Medical Center is committed to expanding and enhancing our educational offerings through a variety of initiatives and partnerships.
Below are a few recent program highlights:
- We are excited to announce that Deeva Frankel, MD, has become the new Program Director for our Podiatry Residency Program. Dr. Frankel earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University and completed her Podiatry residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2017. She is board-certified by both the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Frankel is a dedicated clinician and educator; she is committed to training the residents to provide excellent medical and surgical podiatric care to patients.
- Our 2025 residency interviews are winding down. Each year, our faculty and program directors interview hundreds of medical students for a limited number of spots in our residency programs. We have been historically successful in matching outstanding medical students to our training programs, and we pride ourselves on consistently filling all our residency spots. We look forward to extending offers to the new residents soon.
- Our residents consistently raise expectations for collaborative research. Alexa K. Moreno, one of our residents, recently collaborated with OBGYN, Neurosurgery, and our medical school partners to publish ‘A Case Report of Sporadic Cerebellar Hemangioblastoma Post Cesarean Section’ in the Archive of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Medicine (AOGRM). This is one of many examples of our residents partnering with Mount Sinai staff to make strides across disciplines.
- We’d like to congratulate our Internal Medicine residents on their fellowship matches. Each year, many of our graduating residents elect to pursue additional sub-specialty training. We are excited to announce the matches below:
- Christy Sanchez, Cardiology, Mount Sinai Medical Center
- Steven Hartman, Cardiology, Mount Sinai Medical Center
- Lynda Ostermann, Infectious Disease, Jackson Memorial/University of Miami
- Esha Vallabhaneni, Hematology & Medical Oncology, Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia
- Pallavi Velagapudi, Rheumatology, Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia
- Cynthia Espinosa, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, Florida Atlantic University

Our dedication to innovative clinical trials, graduate medical education, and Ivy-League affiliations in cardiovascular care, urology, orthopedics, and oncology further solidify our standing as a nationally renowned care provider.
