Miami residents for 59 years, Patricia and Dr. Phillip Frost are dedicated supporters of medicine, science, and the arts; their vision of transforming Miami into a hub for technological and scientific innovation is exemplified in the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and the Frost Institute of Science and Engineering. “As soon as I moved here, I felt comfortable in South Florida. It was a burgeoning community where it was easy to develop close friendships. Yet, it was growing rapidly, so there was an air of excitement in the city. I thought it was a great environment for us to grow into,” Dr. Frost says. Dr. Frost served as the Chairman of Dermatology and currently serves on the Executive Board of Trustees at Mount Sinai Medical Center and led the community in the pharmaceutical business sector; Patricia devoted more than 20 years to public education as the Principal of Henry West Laboratory Elementary School. On their philanthropic involvement with Mount Sinai, Dr. Frost says, “The medical center is a source of first-class healthcare for the community, and it is also a place that is dedicated to training physicians and educating the next generation of caregivers. It is always developing, always trying to improve itself.”
Patricia and Dr. Phillip Frost are dedicated to increasing access to cutting-edge technologies and innovative techniques in the health care space. “We believe that technology is very important for any community, particularly for a growing community,” Dr. Frost says. “Technology was a cornerstone of the science museum, just as it is for the latest Mount Sinai project.” In alignment with this goal, the Frosts supported the groundbreaking Skolnick Surgical Tower, which opened in 2019. With breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, the tower provides South Florida with state-of-the-art medical technology and premiere surgical care. On their generous donation to Mount Sinai, Dr. Frost says, “It is important to have world-class facilities in what we consider to be a world-class city. We want to offer the best medical care for all residents and visitors whenever they need it.”
The Frosts feel that philanthropy is about building a community and constructing the future. “We are pleased to be able to give back at this point in our lives and have the opportunity to influence the course of events in Miami,” Dr. Frost says. “We want to positively touch as many lives as possible, and we try to think about our giving in that way.” Their impactful philanthropic work at the medical center will allow future generations to receive the highest standard of care possible, shifting the landscape of health care in South Florida permanently. “Through our involvement with Mount Sinai, we are hoping to show our appreciation to the community and to the people who helped us thrive,” Dr. Frost says.
