Gino R. Santorio Joins Mount Sinai Medical Center as President and Chief Executive Officer

 Miami Beach, FL – February 15, 2021 – Mount Sinai Medical Center welcomes Gino R. Santorio as president and chief executive officer, effective today, Monday, Feb. 15. 

Mount Sinai Medical Center is the largest private, independent, not-for-profit teaching hospital in South Florida, and Santorio now oversees the clinical and administrative operations for the organization’s 11 locations across Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, including three emergency centers. 

“With 40 years of health care experience and 20 years as CEO, Steve Sonenreich has led this organization with a mission-driven focus on delivering the highest quality of patient care to our region,” said Mount Sinai Board of Trustees Chairman Mark H. Hildebrandt. “As Steve steps into a new emeritus role, I know Gino will demonstrate an equal passion and enthusiasm for the medical center. He brings with him 15 years of executive health care experience – much of that right here in South Florida –and a dedication to continuing that deep commitment to serving our community.” 

Santorio now leads more than 4,000 employees and 700 physicians at Mount Sinai, which was recognized as one of the nation’s top hospitals by IBM Watson Health in both 2018 and 2019, in addition to being recognized by Healthgrades as a Top 250 hospital in the nation for 2020 and 2021.

Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Santorio served as president and chief executive officer of Broward Health, one of the nation’s largest public health care systems. Previous experience includes a senior executive level stint with increasing roles of responsibility at Jackson Health System and for-profit executive health care experience at two hospitals in the greater Tampa Bay market. 

Santorio’s recent notable awards include the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Next Excalibur Award, which recognizes top local executives; South Florida Business & Wealth’s Up & Comer Award in the health care category; and Becker’s Hospital Review’s Healthcare Leaders Under 40.
