Inpatient Behavioral Health Services

The Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Behavioral Health offers inpatient psychiatric services to adult and geriatric patients. This includes the treatment of a wide range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral disorders, including major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and psychosis. The goal is to create and maintain a quiet, safe, and supportive environment that fosters healing and growth so patients can return to the community in a healthy way.

Our newly renovated, 81-bed inpatient facility includes three separate units and is one of the largest programs in Miami-Dade County. The state-of-the-art facilities were meticulously designed to provide a safe and therapeutic environment. Secure, semi-private rooms with en suite restrooms keep patients safe while they receive highly customized and comprehensive care. Other safety features include shatterproof windows, anti-barricade doors, anti-ligature fixtures, and specialized furniture.

Our highly trained behavioral health staff offers individualized, hands-on treatment plans to provide timely responses to acute behavioral crises. This includes services for patients who require short-term hospitalization and care for their psychiatric disorders, as well as those patients who require long-term stabilization in a secure environment. With more than 100 experienced staff members, the department represents multiple nationalities and languages, including Spanish, Creole, and Russian.

The inpatient program uses an interdisciplinary treatment approach, and individualized treatment plans are developed collaboratively by the treatment team. Based on their treatment plan, patients have access to individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, recreational therapy, occupational and behavioral therapies, family counseling, psychiatric evaluations, psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, medication management, complete nutritional assessment, psycho-education for medication self-management, and electroconvulsive therapy. The treatment team consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, a registered intern for marriage and family therapist, registered nurses, mental health technicians, patient care technicians, certified therapeutic recreation specialists, certified activity specialists, social workers, and occupational therapists. Other healthcare specialists are also available when needed.
