Gastroenterology Program Overview

At Mount Sinai Medical Center, our gastroenterology (GI) experts work every day to prevent, diagnose, and treat digestive disorders of the GI tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small and large bowel, rectum, and anus. The GI system also includes diseases of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

Our highly skilled, compassionate physicians and staff are committed to putting our patients’ health and well-being first by offering a variety of treatment options to fit their individual needs. From common ailments to complex disorders, our team of specialists employ the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures available.

Top GI Surgical Expertise

If surgery is needed, Mount Sinai’s team of gastrointestinal surgeons achieves outstanding results for surgical patients, performing more than 9,000 digestive procedures a year. [1] Our GI surgeons are specialized in minimally invasive treatments for various conditions, such as esophageal, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, and liver cancer. Our team has extensive experience in multiple fields and provides high-quality, patient-centric, evidence-based care while using the latest technology and minimally invasive techniques, such as robotic surgery. With unmatched expertise and less invasive procedures, our patients often benefit from shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery, and they typically require less pain medication.

Multidisciplinary Approach

Our GI program includes physicians and other care providers with different areas of expertise. We call this multidisciplinary care, and with this approach, we carefully customize each patient’s treatment plan. Our physicians come together once a week to discuss disease processes and review patients’ cases, ensuring a comprehensive treatment plan before, during, and after surgery. We closely monitor our patients, with intensive follow-up protocols to track each individual’s long-term outcome.
