Geriatrics
Mount Sinai Medical Center is among the nation’s top hospitals for geriatric care. Seniors often have complex health needs and caring for these individuals is one of the most challenging. Mount Sinai’s geriatricians combine a deep understanding of the biology of aging with knowledge of the disease and conditions of old age.
Mount Sinai combines knowledge, technology, and research to provide the most advanced medicine available. We provide older adults with the diagnostic services, medical and surgical treatment, and continued support services necessary to preserve optimum health. We provide services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Mount Sinai has the following special programs designed for seniors:
At Mount Sinai Medical Center we treat a wide range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral disorders, including major depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and psychosis. We are a Baker Act Receiving Facility.
The units provide services to acutely ill patients who require short-term hospitalization and care for their psychiatric disorders, as well as those patients who require longer-term stabilization in a secure environment.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia among older adults. The Wien Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders at Mount Sinai Medical Center offers hope through screening programs; early diagnosis; delaying progression by treating memory, cognitive problems and behavioral disturbances at an early stage; supporting and providing education to the caregivers and the public; and in conducting cutting-edge research.
