Urology Program Overview
At the Columbia University Division of Urology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, our expert team of urologists uses advanced techniques, including robotic surgery and the latest in diagnostics and treatments, to address nearly every condition affecting men and women’s urinary systems. In addition, our urology program includes a robust men’s health component to help couples overcome infertility, erectile dysfunction, and to diagnose and treat diseases that affect men, including prostate issues.
What Is Urology?
Doctors who specialize in urology treat diseases and conditions that affect those parts of the body involved in making and eliminating urine – for both men and women. These include the kidneys, bladder, ureter, and urethra. In addition, urology includes specialized care for men’s reproductive organs: the penis, testes, and prostate. In addition to training in internal medicine, all urologists, including those at Mount Sinai Medical Center, also have training in surgery, so they often use surgical techniques in their treatments.
Our Approach
At Mount Sinai Medical Center, we use innovative technology and equipment, including minimally invasive robotic surgery systems, to offer patients the most leading-edge care possible. In addition, Mount Sinai’s urology program includes physicians with sub-specialty training to deal with unique urological issues that affect women and men. So, when you choose Mount Sinai for your urological care, your doctor has specific expertise in conditions that affect you as a man or woman.
Education and Research
As one of South Florida’s original statutory teaching hospitals, Mount Sinai prides itself for training the next generation of highly skilled physicians and surgeons. We offer a urology residency program that ensures patients receive the most up-to-date care while providing physician residents with an exceptional curriculum, unparalleled training in technical skills, and access to clinical research.
Mount Sinai has the only Ivy League affiliated urology program in South Florida, backed by Columbia University. That means our urologists are professors at Columbia University and each year, they provide fellowship training to physicians participating in Columbia University’s Fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstruction. Our physicians also participate in multi-institutional clinical research and are members of the American Urological Association and the Endourological Society.
