Mount Sinai’s Wellness Initiative Team introduces two new Serenity Spaces.

Mount Sinai is thrilled to announce the launch of two new Wellness Rooms/Serenity Spaces as part of the medical center’s Wellness Initiative. The Wellness Rooms/Serenity Spaces officially launched on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 with the goal of creating safe and relaxing environments that are dedicated to Mount Sinai’s Nursing Staff.

Mary Jaramillo Mangia, Erika Smith, Sheroline Eccles, Denise Toro, Celica Vega, Isabelle Verrette, Sophia Donaldson, and Keisha Salmon all lead the Wellness Initiative Team, which is responsible for developing innovative ways to promote a healthy work-life balance. With the advent of both Wellness Rooms/Serenity Spaces, members of the nursing team can find time during their busy work schedules to decompress, especially during moments of immense stress. Both spaces are the first to exist in a clinical setting at Mount Sinai and will continually serve as models for future projects.

Each space simulates a spa-like experience and is equipped with a relaxing recliner, a mini sound bath, a diffuser with aromatherapy scents, calming wall décor, inspirational messaging, mindfulness cards, positive affirmations, and much more. In fact, all of these elements have been hand-selected by the Wellness Initiative Team to ensure the ultimate serenity experience.

The first Wellness Room/Serenity Space is located on the fourth floor (4 Main) of the deHirsch Meyer Tower and the second is located on the seventh floor (Tower 7) of the Skolnick Surgical Tower, allowing ease of access for all nursing staff.

“Self-care and mental wellness are crucial to our overall physical health. As we all spend so much time caring for others every day, we may find it easy to overlook our own mental and physical well-being. It is vitally important that you take care of yourselves—body, mind, and spirit,” says Keisha Salmon, Nurse Director of 4 Main and Tower 7.

This is a very exciting moment for Mount Sinai Medical Staff. Mental wellness is an integral part of overall health and dedicated moments of self-care can have a huge impact on day-to-day routines.
