Summer Travel Preparedness

Summer Travel Preparedness

Summer is well underway and many of people will be traveling afar. Our Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Robert Goldzer offers his healthy travel tips from researching lodging to planning outdoor activities:

  • Don’t worry about airplane travel if you are fully vaccinated. While mask requirements have been lifted from many national and international flights, you may feel more at ease wearing a mask on a flight and masks can further protect you.
  • If you are not vaccinated, get vaccinated. This is a travel essential to protect yourself from COVID 19 and all of its variants. While you can still contract it, being vaccinated lowers your symptoms and in many cases, can prevent serious illness and hospitalization.
  • Make sure to research lodging for cleaning polices, sick cancellation rules, PPE on staff, mask requirements and safe food and beverage options.
  • Be informed, prepared and flexible! Make sure your bookings are refundable, should you or a family member get sick.
  • Plan as many outdoor activities as you can. While we have certainly come a long way as it relates to the global pandemic, outdoor activities are still your best bet for staying safe and healthy when traveling.
  • Research nearby health facilities. No one wants to start their vacation off by thinking about getting ill but having a game plan should it happen, is essential.
